ST. JOHN'S CHURCH
Fishers Island, NY

EVENTS
St. John's Church hosts a number of community events throughout the summer, including book club, Bible study, and music programs. For a full calendar of events, please see below. The events calendar is updated regularly, so check back for new additions!

BOOK GROUP
St. John's hosts a weekly book group facilitated by Rev. Michael Spencer. This summer we will be reading The Odyssey, translated by Emily Wilson and examining the topic: Biblical and Classical Journey Narratives. The theme of journey is a key motif in the biblical and classical world, referencing physical and spiritual journeys both outward through the world and inward into the depths of the soul. In this book group, we will read Emily Wilson’s fresh translation of Homer’s Odyssey and consider relevant biblical passages which resonate, challenge, and inform perspective on Homer’s classic tale. Copies of The Odyssey will be available for purchase at the rectory, beginning on Friday, July 2. Please join us each week to share wisdom, laughter, reflection, and joy.
Bible and Theological Study will be held on Fridays at 10:30AM at the Rectory from July 2 through August 7.
BIBLE STUDY
St. John's hosts a weekly bible study facilitated by Rev. Michael Spencer. This summer, the book group will be joining with Bible Study for a Bible and Theological Study of The Odyssey: Classical and Biblical Journeys.
Bible and Theological Study will be held on Fridays at 10:30AM at the Rectory from July 10 through August 7.

MUSIC AT ST. JOHN'S
St. John's is proud to host a number of music events each summer featuring organist Dan Moriarty, as well as visiting musicians and artists from our island community. These concerts are made possible thanks to generous donations from church members to refurbish the W. Richard Bingham Memorial Organ. For more information on music at St. John's click here.
