ADDITIONAL SACRAMENTS AND SERVICES

Baptisms:  Each summer, many families request that their children or grandchildren be baptized at St. John’s.  For some, this is the first time for an island baptism, for others, this is continuing a generational practice within the family.  Every baptism is special and the celebration of God’s gift of life in a precious child.  Families wishing to schedule a baptism should contact Rev. Michael Spencer.

Weddings:  Christian marriage is a solemn and public covenant.  In the Episcopal Church, it is required that at least one of the parties be a baptized Christian; that the ceremony be attested by at least two witnesses; and that marriage conform to the laws of the State of New York and the Canons of the Episcopal Church.  Couples wishing to be married at St. John’s Church should begin the planning process well in advance as the logistics of planning a wedding on Fishers Island are a bit challenging.  With regard to use of the church, couples should contact the Rector directly to schedule an initial meeting and receive a marriage application and policies regarding weddings at St. John’s.

Funerals & Memorial Services: Families wishing to schedule funerals and memorial services at the church should contact the Rector to review the specifics of the service.  The church can assist with connections to local funeral homes, florists, musicians, and cemeteries (including those on Fishers Island).  The Rector works with the family to personalize the service, provide pastoral support, and construct an appropriate and fitting celebration of the individual’s life.  Families may also speak with the Rector regarding potential memorial plantings in the church meditation garden or memorials within the church building.
